Placement Tips & Considerations While Choosing a Freestanding Tub Filler

When filling a tub, it is important to be able to reach the taps easily. But it is not the only thing you should consider. Because a freestanding model can be placed anywhere within the tub's perimeter, it is much more flexible than a wall-mounted faucet that has limited options. When choosing the location for your freestanding tub filler faucet, consider the following.

STAY NEAR THE DRAIN

Tub fillers are usually installed on the side where the drain is. It could be at one end or on the other side of the tub. This prevents splashing and allows for quick drainage in the event that the tub is too full. It's not necessary. If your bathroom design allows, it's fine to place the filler further away from the drain.

AVOID TRAFFIC PATHS

Consider if the placement will cause a trip hazard. Filler placed too close to areas where people use the bathroom regularly walk will be likely to get kicked or stumbled upon. This can cause minor injuries and damage the tub faucet, causing it to wear or allowing plumbing connections to become loose. Place the filler so that it is out of reach of your feet.

CONSIDER THE REACH

Tub fillers are only designed to extend horizontally a maximum of six inches to fit over the tub's edge. Each model has a different distance required to be installed from the tub's edge for repairs or replacement. Installation options can be restricted depending on the tub's size and thickness. A tub might only be thin enough for a tub filler to be accepted on certain ends or sides.

CHECKING PLUMBING LIMITATIONS

Consider the limitations of installing the plumbing connecting to the tub filler faucet. It is not always possible to run plumbing under a floor joist, or any other feature below the floor. Ask a plumber for advice and to help you choose from a variety of placements. It is possible that one placement is easier or less costly than another.
